When he released his Rental track last October, dancehall artiste Hydal was convinced that he had a hit on his hands. The song caused quite the stir on the local music scene, but he believed COVID-19 slowed its progress following the shutdown of the entertainment industry in March.

Today, however, the artiste is looking to re-emerge as he seeks to end 2020 on a high.

"I do think COVID-19 slowed down the song because I didn't get to utilise it much on stage because the live performance aspect of the industry has been shutdown for much of the year and that is definitely one of my strong points," Hydal said.

The up-and-coming entertainer said he has spent much of the lockdown period improving his craft, and he is now convinced that he is a better artiste as a result of the additional work he has put in.

"I have been learning to master the craft more with new style and new flows to conquer the globe with my music next year. I have also been a lot more active on social media because that space has easily become the platform to keep in touch with the fans, and show them that work is still in progress," Hydal said.

The Rental deejay has plans to release an EP, The Eye Corner, to jump-start 2021. He said that the project is a compilation of six which are relatable, and based on stories of everyday life.

Nothing too up tempo, but more of a calm vibe to ring in 2021 and show the fans a different side of Hydal," he said of Eye Corner, which is slated to be released on New Year's Day.

"This EP will definitely show my true talent and my versatility so it will keep them anticipating what's next. I have always planned on dominating the dancehall scene and so I'm just focussing on building my brand to become household next year and beyond. I'm just all about expanding my reach and my fanbase," Hydal said.
