Mount Pleasant honour dead stalwart
Defending Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions Mount Pleasant Football Academy honoured fallen soldier equipment personnel Oral 'Breeder' Warren on Sunday. Warren passed away earlier this year.
As a token of appreciation for his loyalty and dedicated service, Mount Pleasant contributed $500,000 to Warren's family, and sporting director Paul Christie said they felt compelled to make the gesture.
"He was the longest-serving member of the organisation, and so we saw it fit to do this presentation as a token of appreciation for his long service and unwavering commitment to Mount Pleasant.
"In the festivities of the preseason, we wanted to recognise his last game with us in an official capacity, which was the Premier League final with Cavalier. So we saw it fitting to do this at this game, as a mark of respect.
"He died soon after (JPL) final, so we just used this opportunity to honour his last official game with us," Christie said.
He stated that Warren's entire family turned out to accept the contribution and show their appreciation.
"The family came out and was elated. It was well appreciated, and the warmth that the entire St Ann family showed them was good all around."
He added also that Warren, who did his job with a smile, was an example for all.
"He didn't see it as a job. He was only a part of the wider family. He was Mount Pleasant through and through. He and the players had a good relationship.
"He took his craft seriously. He did it with pride and diligence, and people can learn from his attitude toward work, punctuality and readiness. St Ann has lost a real football son," Christie said.
