Clarendon vs Glenmuir again
DACOSTA CUP kingpins Clarendon College and Glenmuir High qualified for their second final in four days when they advanced to the Champions Cup final after semi-final wins at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
Keheim Dixon scored a brace to lead the way for Clarendon as they got past Manning Cup finalists Hydel High 2-0.
In the other semi-final, Glenmuir defeated Kingston College 5-3 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw at full-time. Brandon Wallace put Glenmuir in front after 13 minutes but Darnel Edwards tied the game with a deflected shot three minutes later.
Earlier, Dixon's first goal came after 19 minutes and he secured the win with an emphatic strike three minutes from time.
After failing to score in his team's daCosta Cup semi-final win over Garvey Maceo last Saturday, Dixon said he was highly motivated to deliver yesterday.
"I am the striker. I know I have to put away some goals. I didn't get to do that in the daCosta Cup semi-finals so I knew I had to step up now for my team," he said.
Clarendon College coach Lenworth Hyde said he was pleased with how his team executed on the day.
" We had an excellent first half, moving the ball around and being patient and we scored a goal.
"But we should have maintained that control of the game. I didn't like most of the second half. We brought Hydel back into the game but we defended well," Hyde said.
The Andrew Peart-coached Glenmuir won consecutive penalty shoot-outs after last Saturday's 4-2 win on penalties against Dinthill Technical.
Peart said they are happy to be in two deciders and their first Champions Cup final.
"It (win) is a progression of the mission. Not necessarily full accomplishment," he commented. "Once you are in a final you have an obligation to your institution or organisation to try to win."
For the second time in less than a week, Kingston College were ousted from a semi-final via the penalty route but coach Vassell Reynolds said they gave their best on the day.
"We are disappointed. We were in two semi-finals and we are not in one of the finals but they fought through and gave a good game," he said.
