Speid positive going into Caribbean Cup final
Cavalier coach Rudolph Speid is hoping to at least end even, when they take on Robinhood of Suriname in the first leg of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final at the Dr Ir Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname, at 7 p.m. today.
Cavalier have remained unbeaten throughout the competition, while Robinhood have one defeat to Jamaica's Harbour View, but Speid believes the teams are evenly matched.
"We don't know this team none at all. It is the first we are playing them, but we are the two best teams in the competition," Speid said.
He conceded that Robinhood, playing at home, have the advantage and stated that Cavalier gaining a point from the encounter would be an impetus for them in the return leg, slated to be played at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
"We want to come back at least on even terms. They have an advantage because they are here (home) resting for us, and we are playing on a turf field, which we do not have experience with.
"We are backing our ability to do what we can do. The stakes are high, and they have never lost a match at their venue, but I expect a good game. They will have to go for the win, and we will have a plan for that," he said.
However, Speid noted that Cavalier will not sit back and hope for a result but will look to bring the game to their opponents.
"We are an attacking team, and we will attack and try to see if we can get some positives out of the game. If it (result) is not positive, we still have 90 more minutes for a next plan," he said.
