Assistant Reggae Boyz coach Merron Gordon has joined the throng singing praises for young forward Kaheim Dixon, who is already showing his goalscoring prowess at the senior level.

Dixon helped Clarendon College retain their daCosta Cup and Olivier Shield titles, scoring 32 goals in the last schoolboy football season, and recently started playing for Arnett Gardens in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

Gordon revealed that head coach Heimer Hallgrimsson rates Dixon highly and thinks that he is a player who needs to be prepared for the future.

"I think he is one of the talents we need to nurture, and nurture properly. Coach (Hallgrimsson) openly told him that he liked how he grasped the information and how hard he worked.

"The coach likes players who will come back and defend, and Kaheem is one of those, and if you allow him a sniff at your goal, he is going to score.

"Let us see how he grows in the Premier League and grows with each (national) call-up he gets," Gordon commented.

Dixon scored in his first match for Arnett Gardens on Sunday and was also the top scorer for the Jamaica All-School team at the recent CASA Youth Classic tournament, held in Florida, scoring six goals in four matches to take the Golden Boot.

In the 2022 National Tier II League, he top-scored with 14 goals for Chapelton Maroons, whom he helped qualify for the JPL for the first time.

The 19-year-old, who got his first senior national team call-up recently, also scored in his first match in the national colours, netting the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the JPL's Humble Lion.

Gordon believes that Dixon has what it takes to make it professionally because of his many attributes that can help him to succeed at the top level.

"When I told coach (Hallgrimsson) about Kaheim, he asked if he could make the transition quickly, and I said players like Kaheim can make the transition into any team anywhere because of how hard-working he is.

"He is not going to stand around waiting for goals to score, and players like that you can transform into anything. He has a scoring talent, he is a hard-working guy, the coach really likes him, and I think his future is really bright," Gordon said.

Dixon is expected to turn out again for Arnett in their next JPL game against rivals Tivoli Gardens at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Stadium East.
