In a repeat of the 2017, 2019 and 2022 Manning Cup finals, Jamaica College (JC) were once again the team to eliminate St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) from the competition following their 4-0 win yesterday in the semifinals at the National Stadium.

In the first semifinal, Excelsior High turned back a confident Eltham High in comfortable fashion as they ran out 3-1 victors.

Goals from Kimarly Scott, Terence Williams and Kivann Salmon rocketed Excelsior into the final while Steven Bull pulled back a consolation goal for the boys from St Catherine.

In the feature match Duwayne Burgher opened the scoring for JC in the 31st minute before Jamone Lyle doubled their lead in the 37th.

Jamoy Dennis added his name to JC's scoresheet in the 62nd before Burgher returned for his brace in the 66th.

Raymond Watson, JC's coach, said he was not surprised by the result as he was confident his charges could get the better of STATHS.

He said based in their previous meeting in the first round, he was aware they had the quality to get past their opponents.

"If I showed you my phone, I did say to someone that we would have won 4-0," Watson said after the match.

"The first game when we played them, we didn't have Jamone Lyle and Malique Bucknor was on the bench, he played about 10 minutes, and then we asked Duwayne Burgher to play in a different position.

JC went searching for the goal early and nearly pulled off a brilliant team goal as a string of interchanging passes down the right flank saw them breaking into STATHS' penalty area.

They could not find the final pass, however, as STATHS were quick to clear their lines.

STATHS responded to the early pressure and Marvin Henry had two opportunities at goal in quick succession.

His first chance came in the 13th minute when he picked up a loose ball in the box and fired at goal, but his shot was smothered by the goalkeeper.

His second chance came three minutes later when he was left unmarked for a cross in the box but he could not direct his header on target.

Dujoni Thomas created a brilliant opportunity for JC as he made his way into the box off the left flank but placed the ball wide of the near post at the decisive moment.

JC's pressure paid off just past the half-hour mark as route one football proved to be their undoing.

Burgher latched on to a ball over the top and made no mistake as he slotted home in a one-on-one confrontation with the goalkeeper.

Lyle doubled JC's lead soon after when he produced a first-time effort to finish off Jabarie Howell's pass across the face of goal.

JC should have had a third goal just a minute later, as they upped the ante on a stunned STATHS unit, when Dennis stripped defender Keno Levy of the ball inside the penalty area, but goalkeeper Jaheime Gray was on hand to make the save.

JC started the second half much like they left the first and immediately applied pressure on STATHS by carving out chances.

Burgher felt he got his brace in the 62nd minute when his strike from close range beat the goalkeeper but some last ditch defending from STATHS cleared the ball off the line.

Their resistance lasted only seconds, however, as Dennis left loose a rocket of a hit that was too hot to handle for Gray.

Smelling blood in the water, JC again went on the offensive and found purchase when Burgher, played through on goal by Malique Bucknor, snagged his second of the afternoon.
