Sean Paul teams up with Brushy One String

Grammy Award winner Sean Paul has released a collaboration with veteran singer Brushy One String. 

The track, titled Burn Dem Down, is a Dutty Rock Production that came from a chance meeting.

“I saw him performing while on vacation in Jamaica. He played his one string and captivated the audience for over 80 minutes,” Sean Paul recalled. “He is an establishment on the hotel circuit and an artiste who I know from the ‘90s. This is a man with talent.”

A professional performer for more than 20 years, Brushy One String first captivated Jamaicans on the talent showcase Digicel Rising Stars in 2006. Born Andrew Chin, the artiste developed his unique one-string guitar style from an early age and built an international following through live performances, recordings, and online media. Among Brushy One String’s most recognisable songs is Chicken in The Corn, which has well over 70 million views on YouTube. 

Sean Paul, after connecting with Brushy One String, felt inspired to experiment with his guitar in the making of the track.

“Me start to mess with the one string on my guitar and I play the bassline alone and come up with the riff. What came from the experiment is bluesy and full of melody,” Seal Paul said. One of his musical collaborators, Andre ‘Suku’ Gray, filled in the gaps of his guitar skills and was able to record the riff in segments to merge later in production. 

“After that, we built a rhythm and started writing the song. I said I couldn't do this song without that brother [Brushy One String] here. He inspired it,” said Sean Paul.

For Brushy One String, the collaboration brings together two very different but authentically Jamaican artistes.

“It cannot be denied that I have a unique voice, and so does Sean. Musically, this works because of all the experiences we have gained travelling the world and spreading Jamaica’s music far and wide. The collaboration brings out both our styles and international influences,” Brushy One String said.

Sean Paul said that the song is also an expression of his respect. 

“He’s (Brushy One String) an artiste that me rate. It's people like this in Jamaica that need to get highlighted. We just are not seeing his talent if he’s not in the runnings of this dancehall thing. So, I want to give him some more exposure. People know the man. So, let's have him out there, and I hope, when people hear this, they check out more of him works. Him bad,” he said.

Brushy One String tours extensively internationally at festivals, concert halls, clubs, theatres and cultural events throughout the globe. He is particularly active on the European festival circuit and has other music slated for release later in 2026.

A live video for Burn Dem Down was also released yesterday. Shot at Skyline Levels, the video is directed and edited by Dub School and video produced by Terrence ‘Farenizzi’ Harold, who is also a touring vocalist in Sean Paul’s Badda Bandz. The video showcasing the live band version has videography by Bishop Starcore and drone shots by Robin Chin.
