The Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA) will have two representatives at the last Olympic Games boxing qualifier, the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) world qualification tournament in Bangkok, from May 23 to June 3. This was confirmed by Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) general secretary Ryan Foster last night.

Jamaica failed to qualify through the continental qualifiers, the Pan American Games, despite sending two athletes, Sanji Williams and Jaden Eccleston, to the Games in Chile last October.

They then missed the first IOC world qualification tournament in Busto Arzizio, Italy, from February 19 to March 12.

Foster disclosed that the two boxers selected were registered on their long list of athletes to participate in the Olympics and that as it stands, the two will go to the qualifiers.

"They are in the system. As of today's (yesterday) date, they have been registered. They are on course to go to the qualifiers, and once they are confirmed (by JBA) the JOA will assist them in whatever Olympic qualifiers they have," he stated.

When contacted earlier yesterday, JBA general secretary Leroy Brown, who is overseeing talks with the JOA, confirmed that discussions were ongoing but that he could not provide an update.

"As we speak I am working on it. But I cannot give a final thing yet. It is a work in progress at this point.

"In a day or two I will be able to give something specific. But as we speak I am working on it," he said

STAR Sports understands that following the national championships in February, three boxers were named to attend the qualification tournament.

However, with only two selected by the JOA, the JBA will now decide which two, of the three, they will choose for the qualifiers.

Heavyweight boxer Ricardo Brown represented Jamaica at the last Olympics in Tokyo, but he was the first Jamaican to do so in 24 years.
