Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president Mark Bennett has called on the corporate community to give Boys' Town Football Club the support it needs to participate in the Jamaica Football Championship (Tier II) next season.

After defeating the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on penalties to lift the KSAFA Championship League title at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday, Boys' Town president and team manager Andrew Price declared that the club was still unsure about participation in the Tier II league due to their lack of resources and the demands of the competition.

However, Bennett pointed out that the club still holds legendary status locally and huge following islandwide, and that football can only win if Boys' Town rediscover their presence in the domestic game.

"I do understand the position of Boys' Town," Bennett said. "Every club administrator has to look at the situations they face. It is all well and good to want to play a competition but you have to ensure that you have the resources to support your participation.

"But Boys' Town are not one of those clubs that are well off so if they are going to play Tier II they are going to need all the help they can get, help from the community and help from corporate Jamaica, to make it a reality because they really need it."

He added that that the club is a brand name in local football and has a natural link with the community and even beyond.

"The community of Boys' Town extends further than what is there geographically in west Kingston. I know persons who travel from Portland to come and watch Boys' Town play on Sundays.

"So they are a brand and we are calling on corporate Jamaica, those within and outside the community to go on board and support Boys' Town if they intend to participate (in Tier II) and give them the help because it's Jamaica's football that will benefit," Bennett said.

Boys' Town opted not to take up a place in the competition last season, this after Championship League winners Real Mona refused their invitation, and runners-up Barbican declined to take up their spot in the playoffs, leaving Boys' Town as the team next in line to replace them.
