The 48-year-old St Catherine taxi man who was arrested on Sunday for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old passenger the previous day has been slapped with several charges.

He was charged on Wednesday by detectives attached to the police's Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse with rape, forcible abduction and sexual touching of a child.

He was charged following a question-and-answer session.

Reports are that about 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, the 13-year-old complainant boarded a taxi in Spanish Town that was heading to Angels.

After letting off other passengers along the journey, the driver allegedly diverted to the Angels Grove Housing Scheme and took the girl to an isolated area, held her down inside the car, and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

He then reportedly abandoned the child in the area.

She related her ordeal to passers-by in the area.

The police were contacted and the taxi was subsequently intercepted.

He was taken into custody and his vehicle seized.
