The quest for rural schoolboy football supremacy climaxes with exciting, hungry teams Glenmuir High and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in a mouthwatering showdown for the ISSA daCosta Cup at the National Stadium on Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m.

Glenmuir have only lost two games this season, scoring 76 goals and conceding 15, while STETHS have an unbeaten record, scoring 63 goals and conceding only six times.

Andrew Peart, head coach of Glenmuir who are seeking to end their 13-year title drought, highlighted the team's consistency and ability to adapt, stay focused and triumph in close games.

CONTROLLING GAMES

"One of the best things for us is to be playing well by controlling games and not giving life to opponents. Opposed to that, we have shown in some results, over the season, of fighting in games where it is very close, (and) in games we have gone behind," Peart analysed.

"We have been very determined and consistent in our play and not been phased by the situation and the resorting to something that is not our game," added Peart, who has been the coach since 2021.

Glenmuir had their backs against the wall, trailing 1-0 in their semi-final against Dinthill Technical on Wednesday, but were able to rally to a 2-1 win.

The Clarendon-based Glenmuir have won 11 schoolboy titles - three daCosta Cup, seven Ben Francis KO, and one Olivier Shield.

Last season, they missed a place in the daCosta Cup final after the 2024 champions Garvey Maceo edged them 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

BEST SEASON IN YEARS

A force to be reckoned with, STETHS have been having arguably one of the best seasons in years.

Still, the Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn-coached STETHS is the only team with an unbeaten record and they have been group winners in each round.

They have gone a decade without a title and missed out on a place in the daCosta Cup semi-finals after a 5-2 defeat to Glenmuir High last season.

Asked if they are seeking to avenge that defeat, Wedderburn told STAR SPORTS the focus is to win.

"At this stage, to become a champion comes with adversity. We have no interest to avenge Glenmuir, because this is a different season and a different team. We are just focused on what we need to do now to lift another trophy," said Wedderburn, who has been the coach for 13 years.

"We have to just remain focused, keep our composure, and display what we do in our training. It is as simple as that, be ready and get the job done," stated Wedderburn.

In the semi-finals, STETHS squeezed out a 1-0 victory over Kemps Hill.

STETHS have won 12 schoolboy football titles - the daCosta Cup in 1974, 1999, 2009, 2013 and 2015; and seven Ben Francis KO titles - in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and 2025.
